Dear Friend,

An interesting encounter happened to me last month…

I sat down with Carmelo to go over the numbers and he couldn’t help but laugh…

“You know that’s the cost of a luxury family vacation”, he said. “You could take your wife and 5 kids to Disney World with that”.

“Carm”, I replied, “I’ve turned that number into making 3 times that much for me this year alone. I’m fully convinced that I’ve reached my goals because of it. It has allowed me to live the life of my dreams. And for that, I’ll happily pay!”

That “number” that Carmelo, my accountant, was referring to was $16,753.

That was the amount that I spent on education and coaching last year alone.

Granted I went over budget by almost $2000, I don’t regret spending a penny of that money at all.

You see, I am proud to say that I am constantly trying to improve and grow both in business and in life.

If I don’t have the expertise in a subject that I want to learn, I find a course that will teach me.

If I want to master a trade or skill, I will find someone who has taken those steps to master the skill and learn from them.

AND if I am dedicated to achieving my goals, NOTHING will help me (or YOU) achieve them faster than having an accountability partner - someone to answer to - and so I will hire a COACH.

So of that money I spent last year, a quarter of it was spent on me hiring my good friend - an expert strength coach - to write programs for me, help me get my nutrition right and most importantly, to GET ME STRONGER.

I think STRENGTH is the master quality that everyone must possess to be successful both in business and in life.

It’s the difference maker between transforming your body and setting new personal records (PRs) VS. “just working out”.

As a personal trainer with 18 years of experience, I know I have the knowledge to be able to write programs to get myself strong and in shape.

But you know when they say that the food always tastes better when someone else - an expert chef, maybe - cooks it for you?

Same thing holds true for training.

Having someone with expertise superior to my own who has walked the talk…

Being accountable to someone you respect - having to answer to someone and having that support - was what made the difference.

Every 2 weeks I would get on the phone with my coach and we would talk about what I was experiencing with my program and make adjustments as necessary.

I reported my progress to him and then every 4 to 6 weeks I would get a new program that would build off the results of the last one.

And that is the most important thing about finding the right coach for you…

When you are training with someone, you must ask yourself…

ARE YOU ON A PROGRAM OR ARE YOU JUST “WORKING OUT”?

What’s the difference you ask?

Well, workouts are just that… A bunch of random exercises thrown together without any real rhyme or reason to make you feel like you just, well, “worked out”.

The media has led us to believe that because something is difficult…

because it makes us sore the next day…

because it leaves us in a sweaty hot mess and makes us feel like we just got ran over by a truck…

…that it must be working.

And when you do these HIIT sessions or WODs all the time - with crappy exercise form because all you care about is chasing that burn - eventually, you either burn out or get injured.

And NOTHING brings your results to a grinding halt like being injured.

BUT, with a proper designed PROGRAM, this is not the case.

The beauty about training for strength - at least the way I will coach you - is that it doesn’t burn you out.

You’re not frying your nervous system - which eventually will severely compromise your immune system.

You’re not spending countless reps using ugly form to try to chase a burn.

It’s not about constant HIIT training or WODs to make you “feel” like you’ve worked out… It’s about constant and logical progression…

First, here’s some perspective…

The “average” personal trainer here in Toronto charges $80 an hour. That’s what I like to call a “stock” trainer from your local big box gym.

Twice per week at $80 an hour works out to $640 per month… and with that you get workouts from someone who - statistics say - will not even be in the fitness industry in 2 years.

When I was personal training full time and running my other fitness businesses I was charging $150 per hour…that’s the going rate for an “elite” personal trainer in the city of Toronto (where I live with my wife and 5 kids).

My clients on average saw me twice per week. Some saw me once, more of them saw me 3 or 4 times per week. But on average, twice per week was the sweet spot.

If we do the math, that’s $300 per week… or $1200 per month.

These days, IF I take on a one-on-one personal training client - which is rare - I charge $200/hr for my time.
