The #AlphaDAD Breakfast

Blueberries, Avocado & Sea Salt.

Game changer.

Truthfully, I didn?t ?discover it? per se.

My buddy Jay Ferruggia has been doing this for a while now and I?ve wanted to try it, but you can?t get blueberries where I live in Costa Rica (you need a cooler, dryer climate).

But we were in San Jose this weekend where they had imported organic blueberries so I figured, why not?

Tried it? loved it.

It?s the perfect combination of texture & taste. That sweet & salty combination is amazing.

I know, I sound like a foodie, but trust me on this.

AND it’s ridiculously healthy…

Blueberries (wild blueberries specifically) have one of the highest polyphenol counts.

Polyphenols are potent antioxidants and fight inflammation, DNA damage, and LDL oxidation.

And therefore they counteract the oxidative damage and inflammation associated with aging, smoking, consuming a crappy diet, obesity and lack of physical exercise.

Avocados are also high in antioxidants and are high in monounsaturated fats (the good kind that helps protect you from heart disease).

They are high in fibre, they help with digestion, they’re anti-aging and they have more potassium than a banana.

And then Himalayan Sea Salt…

We’ve been fooled to believe that salt is bad for you. But it’s not the ’80s anymore.

Himalayan sea salt is rich in minerals and will help you maintain your electrolyte balance.

The important thing with salt is just making sure you opt for a NATURAL source (like sea salt – which comes from the sea, obviously). NaCl or “table salt” is not the same and was made in a factory.

“So what about the protein when you have this breakfast”, you ask?

Simple.

I had this for breakfast yesterday with an #AlphaDAD Coffee (an Americano with 2 tablespoons of collagen powder – 16g of protein).

If you really want a hack, add a couple of packs of gelatin powder (it’s basically the same thing as collagen protein). I used to do that a few years ago when Collagen Peptides weren’t “a thing” after talking with my coach Geoff Neupert.

So good.

And simple.

The #AlphaDAD Breakfast (and anytime snack)

  • 1/2 an avocado (160 calories – 15g fat, 8.5g carbs, 2g protein)
  • a handful of blueberries (49 calories – 1g fat, 12g carbs, 1g protein)
  • sea salt to taste
  • #AlphaDAD Coffee – Black Americano w/2 tbsp Collagen Powder (60 calories – 0g fat, 0g carbs, 16g protein)TOTALS – 269 calories, 16g fat, 20.5g carbs, 19g protein

Save the other 1/2 of the avocado for the next day or later in the day like I did.

Try it? you might like it.

    • Hey Randy – Unflavoured collagen is available everywhere (that’s the kind I use) and you can mix it with almost everything because it has little if any taste at all. If you want a complete breakfast you could have the avocado, blueberries & sea salt with yogurt and mix the collagen with yogurt (I’ve done that before). OR if you want more a keto/paleo experience, mix the collagen with coconut milk and then mix that all together.
